Art Historian Moves Terrorist to Tears

The 36-year old Vladimir Timoshenko accused of intending an act of terror in the Novgorod Kremlin broke into tears after hearing about the historical value and significance of that culture monument from an art historian. According to the prosecutor’s office, the deputy director of the Novgorod Kremlin State Museum and merited cultural professional of the RF Larisa Bannikova made a speech about the Kremlin at court on December 3. “Her speech was so interesting and touching, that the prisoner at bar, who evidently realized what he had wanted to lift hand against, literally broke into tears in the docket” - they said. Vladimir Timoshenko was detained in Veliki Novgorod, where he had moved from Kislovodsk, in June 2009. Search in his flats in both the cities brought to light explosive devices, pneumatic arms and cold steel, and extremist materials hidden there. According to the investigation data, the would-have-been terrorist planned to set up a home-made bomb on the wall of Novgorod Kremlin and blast it. In that way he wanted “to attract attention to problems of Russia and the Russian people”.
