Stand of USA and European Union to Destruction of Monuments to Fighters against Fascism Shocks

The USA and all the EU countries did not support the resolution for protection of monuments to fighters against Nazism from destruction. Their stand is shocking to Russia. On December 18 the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly approved of the Russian project of the resolution, which declaims against glorification of Nazism and desecration of monuments to fighters against fascism. “It is a bewildering and pitiful fact that the USA voted against the resolution supported by the majority of UNO countries, whereas some countries, among them all the EU countries abstained from voting the project” – a message of the RF Foreign Policy Department reads. Earlier Russia had repeatedly fulminated against the policy and action of certain countries, including Estonia, Latvia and Ukraine, on glorifying aiders and abettors of Nazism, as well as destruction of monuments to Soviet warriors – liberators from fascism. The last event of the kind happened in Georgia, where a memorial to warriors of the Great Patriotic War was destructed.
