Russia Will Benefit From Global Warming
A Russian scientist, the author of the “Economy of Climate Change” monograph, recently received the Academician Varga Award for his work. Monograph of professor Boris Porfiriev had a great effect on estimates and discussions of natural risks, caused by climate change. The book contains analysis of climate change effects on development and modernization of global economy. Main conclusion of the study is that Russia would rather benefit than suffer from global warming. Climate change will favour Russian fuel and energy complex and communal services by reducing heating season and saving fuel and energy resources. Possible negative consequences include drop of wind energy potential, excessive pipeline loads and worsening of safety conditions of buildings and other constructions due to flooding and deformations.
